Regular Expressions (Regex) Course

Prerequisites

• No prior Regex experience required
• Familiarity with text editing and file handling is helpful
• Basic knowledge of any programming language (Python, JavaScript, Java, or PHP recommended)

What You Will Learn

• Understand what Regular Expressions are and how they work
• Write and read regex patterns from basic to advanced level
• Use metacharacters, character classes, and shorthand notations (\d, \w, \s)
• Apply quantifiers - greedy and lazy - to control repetition
• Use anchors (^, $) and word boundaries (\b) for position-based matching
• Create capture groups, nested groups, and backreferences
• Write lookahead and lookbehind assertions for advanced matching
• Validate emails, phone numbers, IP addresses, URLs, and dates using regex
• Extract and manipulate data from log files and unstructured text
• Apply regex in Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, Perl, and Unix tools (grep, awk, sed)
• Optimize regex patterns and avoid common mistakes like catastrophic backtracking
• Work with Unicode and international characters in regex
